Mayor Eşki’s Project to Set an Example for All of İzmir

Following the completion of infrastructure work, Bornova Municipality has begun transforming 159th Street, located between Küçükpark and Büyükpark. Mayor Ömer Eşki announced that the area will be renewed through a special project that will serve as a model not only for Bornova but also for the whole of İzmir. The 6,000-square-meter project will include colorful printed asphalt, granite sidewalks, modern lighting, and tree planting.

Bornova Municipality has launched permanent improvement efforts on 159th Street, one of the district’s most prominent areas, after completing necessary infrastructure work. The street, which stretches from Yavuz Selim Secondary School to Süvari Street, between Küçükpark and Büyükpark, is being given a completely new identity.

Mayor Eşki: “It will be a model street”

Bornova Mayor Ömer Eşki, together with İzmir Metropolitan Municipality Council CHP Group Spokesperson and Bornova Municipality Council CHP Group Deputy Chair Av. Yağmur Yurdakul Özkan, visited the site in Kazım Dirik Neighborhood to inspect the ongoing work. Providing details about the project, Mayor Eşki said the specially designed plan for the area has now entered the implementation phase:

“Infrastructure work has been ongoing for a while, and it’s now complete. Very soon, we will deliver a beautiful and exemplary street—not just for Bornova, but for all of İzmir. We’ve also been meeting with local residents, who are very pleased that the project has begun. This will be a model street for all of Bornova and İzmir. It will be opened for public use in the near future.”

A complete transformation over 6,000 square meters

The project covers a 400-meter stretch from 162nd Street to Mustafa Kemal Avenue, totaling 6,000 square meters. The road and sidewalks will be resurfaced with printed, colorful asphalt. Granite paving and modern lighting systems will give the area an aesthetic look. Tree planting along the street will enhance the green landscape and natural atmosphere.
